Do you have a showroom I can visit or do you come to me?
Being able to chat over your projects in the comfort of your own home is one of the perks of choosing The Black Pin. This way we can check out those boring but important factors such as dimensions; light; orientation; room usage – these can all make a real difference when choosing the right look. However, The Black Pin has just moved to a new HQ so renovations are planned and hopefully you’ll be able to come and visit us in our new workroom in the near future.
Do you do all the measuring?
Yes, in fact we always advise you have a Black Pin visit so we can chat over your plans and get those measurements spot on.
Can I measure up instead?
Yes, you can. However, we can’t be held responsible for the accuracy of your measurements. Often, seeing a project at first hand helps us to explain why a certain type of curtain heading or blind might work better than another; so let us make sure there are no costly errors by taking advantage of a home visit.
How far do you travel?
We cover Hampshire, West Sussex and Surrey but have undertaken projects much further afield so please do get in touch if you are outside these areas – we love a roadtrip. Depending on your location there may be some extra travel expenses.
Do you have a fitter that can put my poles/blinds up?
Yes, we have a lovely fitting team who we can organise to come and install your curtains or blinds. This is an additional cost and the price depends upon the size of the project. Alternatively, if you have a keen DIY’er then we are very happy to talk them through how to install your products. Either way, The Black Pin team will accompany the fitter or return to dress your curtains or blinds so they look their best.
How long will my blinds/curtains take?
We plan on a 6 week lead time from when the fabric arrives in the workroom – often it can be sooner but this does depend on the size and type of order. We like to keep you updated on progress which means you have a clear idea about when to expect your order and are made aware of any delays as soon as possible.
Are your products child safe?
Yes. All our blinds and corded tracks comply with the guidelines set out in the current safety regulation BS EN13120 2014. This means that they are constructed using child safe features that when fitted correctly prevent young children strangling themselves in the loop of pull cords or chains that operate blinds and corded curtain tracks.
We always talk through these safety features with you during our home visit and demonstrate how they work at the fitting stage or on delivery. Our fitting team cannot install blinds or corded tracks that do not comply with these regulations.
Do you do alterations and repairs?
Yes we do.
There’s no standard charge as projects can be very variable in terms of the work
required. However, it is important to point out that often deconstructing a
curtain to alter or repair can be quite time-consuming so this is factored into the
overall cost. One thing we do ask is that all curtains (unless new) are either dry
cleaned if this is possible or well vacuumed – avoids any embarrassing “I’m
afraid we can’t work on it” moments.
Do you have pattern books and can you organise samples for me?
Yes. We hold accounts with a number of well-known fabric companies such as Romo, Ian Mankin and Clarke & Clarke. That said, we love championing independent British brands such as Titley & Marr, Vanessa Arbuthnott, Kate Forman, Sarah Hardaker and Charlotte Gaisford to name but a few. We can bring pattern books with us to your home visit which you can hold onto and look over at your leisure.
When it comes to samples, allow us to organise them for you…..it is one of our favourite parts of the job after all. With many companies we can arrange the delivery of larger returnable samples so you can get a proper feel for how the fabric will look.
Can I purchase my own fabric?
When the time comes to order the fabric we prefer that you let us do this for you. We have a great working relationship with many of the fabric houses so this means we can order directly from source ensuring quality and provenance. It also means if there is a problem with the fabric and/or order we are responsible for dealing with this on your behalf.
It will come as no surprise that in ordering your fabric The Black Pin makes a small profit – that is the nature of business after all. However, if you are keen to provide your own fabric a surcharge will be added.
How do I keep my curtains or blinds looking their best?
Regular vacuuming of your blinds or curtains will remove dust and pet hair – if you can, use the upholstery head of your vacuum cleaner to minimise the chance of catching any threads. For lightweight curtains hang them outside on a breezy day as vacuuming maybe too much for more sheer fabrics.
Quotes & Payment
Do I need to pay a deposit?
Once you have agreed our quote and chosen your fabric we will send you a revised version with deposit details. We ask for a 50% deposit at this stage which allows us to go ahead and order your fabric and hardware (poles and blind headrails etc). All our orders are bespoke therefore this deposit is non-refundable.
How can I pay my deposit/final invoice?
You can pay via direct bank transfer to :
The Black Pin Ltd
Account Number 65997184
Sort Code 09-01-28
Or by cheque made payable to :
The Black Pin, Hurstfield House, Hurst, Petersfield, GU31 5RF
The final balance is payable on delivery or installation.
What is the carriage charge?
All fabric companies charge for the delivery of their fabric which is usually on a roll. This cost does vary and where we can we try to group orders together to minimise this cost for our customers.
Privacy & Data Protection
What do you do with any personal details I have supplied?
We collect limited personal details about you in order to supply you with our products. For legal and accountancy purposes these records are securely stored for the required 6 year period.
Do you ever pass my details onto anyone else?
In order to supply you with your lovely curtains and blinds, we may have to pass your name and address to our fitter or another third party e.g a curtain pole supplier. We have agreements in place to ensure they also hold your details securely, and only use them for these purposes. We never sell your data to anyone.
